TRACES AND TESTIMONIES
A Juried Exhibition by the Textile Study Group of New York
Ceres Gallery, 547 West 27th St., Suite 201, New York, NY
Tuesday, January 6-Saturday, January 31, 2026
Ceres Gallery is pleased to present Traces and Testimonies, a juried exhibition of works created by members of the Textile Study Group of New York (TSGNY). The theme of the exhibition, Traces and Testimonies, invites artistic exploration of memory and identity, resilience and cultural narratives through textiles and form, intertwined with landscape and anthropological reflections on place and belonging. The exhibition highlights the diversity of the members as well as the style and techniques. TSGNY is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and promote a wider appreciation of fiber art among the larger art community and the public in general. It aims to inspire and support artists who share a mutual commitment to fiber as a medium for artistic expression. The works have been juried by Marjorie Frankel Nathanson, the Executive Director Emerita of Hunterdon Art Museum, Clinton, New Jersey.

The 45 artists presented here respond to the turbulent events of recent years, especially 2020. They created 50 works that interpret current and possible worlds. We chose them from over 1,800 submissions by 485 artists New Jersey artists. Using various materials and techniques, the selected artists transformed their personal experiences and vision into photographs, paintings, sculpture, textiles, and other artworks.
How did the pandemic, economic distress, and reckoning with racial injustice influence the artists? What emotions and perspectives do they express? How are they similar to or different from your personal experiences? We hope that these creative voices speak to you and offer a way to process the intense events of our current world.
